Since 2006, Access Institute has partnered with the Bayview Hunter’s Point Adult Day Health Center (ADHC) creating the Elder Psychotherapy Program. This partnership is both a base for psychology training and the opportunity to serve a diverse population of seniors and provide them with effective treatment for all their mental health needs.
By providing psychological services in this community setting, the program addresses the lack of integration between mental health, medical care, and social services.
At the Bayview Hunter's Point Adult Day Health Center, interns from the Elder Psychotherapy Program provide on-site psychological services to senior participants in the adult day program. Individual therapy, group treatment and neuropsychological assessment services are provided by the interns who also provide consultation in team meetings.
Mental health intervention not only has reduced mental suffering, depression and anxiety among clients but also has decreased the overuse of medical services.
From July 2008 until June 2009, we have had a wonderful team of psychologists helping participants, consulting with staff and greatly enhancing the services at our Adult Day Health Center.
