Aging Campus dream...

         For the past 12 years BHPMSS, Inc. has advocated for the development of an Aging Campus – comprehensive and integrated services with housing to meet the many needs of the community’s current and future seniors. Services would be provided by BHPMSS, Inc., as well as many other non-profit or governmental organizations and private businesses. The Aging Campus is a cultural development concept that would ensure that the needs of seniors are integrated into the Bayview’s development both along Third Street and on the Bayview Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.

          The idea of an Aging Campus has been discussed throughout the community through forums with seniors and local stakeholders to identify the needs and interests of seniors in the Bayview.

BHP ADHC has the honor of helping some of the people whose lives were totally upended when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans.  Mrs. Gloria Brown, Leola Brown and Mary Davis came to California and stole our hearts.

They loved us, too, but after a year or three all longed too much for home.  They have returned to their beloved New Orleans, and are doing just fine.

I got to visit them in April and bring back these pictures.  Thanks to our wonderful friends for reminding us of just how important it is to have a home--and be able to be there.   We all have a right to age in place!
